Built-in Administrator used in the last 14 days (T1078.001)

The built-in Administrator (RID 500) is reserved for break-glass use.

Why it matters

Each use leaves the account's tickets and password hashes on the computers it logs on to, where they can be stolen. A shared account also hides who did what.

How GraphnAI finds it

It runs after every sync, on each connected domain or tenant on its own. It applies to Active Directory.

It reads:

  • The directory attributes objectSid and lastLogonTimestamp

Tiered Fidelity™ level: Theoretical

Every finding from this check carries the Theoretical level.

  1. TheoreticalThis checkConfigured in the directory. Nothing else checked.
  2. ConstrainedA constraint on it has been checked.
  3. ValidatedTelemetry has seen it in use.

Why there's no automatic fix

The built-in Administrator is on GraphnAI's deny list, so no automated action changes it.

How to fix it

Find out who used the account and why. Reserve it for break-glass use, and move day-to-day administration onto named administrator accounts.
